Meeting Back At Pacific University Next Week: After a week away, we will meet at Pacific University this Wednesday, July 17. We will be at Prime Time for our meeting on Wed., July 24.

Meal Prices Increasing: With the change of food service providers from Aramark to Bon Appetit, our price for meals at our weekly Wednesday meetings will be going up. While we understand the increase is inconvenient for some, we believe that the club will be rewarded with better food and better service. The meal prices moving forward are as follows…

Regular Members: $14 per meal (up from $12). Quarterly billings for meals will go up to $175 per quarter (from $150).
Pay As You Go: $16 per meal (up from $14).
Visiting Rotarians & Guests: $17

Satellite Club Meeting: Our next Satellite Club Meeting will take place on Thurs., July 18, at the home of Pete & Parri Van Dyke, 1336 Rosearden Dr., Forest Grove. Come join us for food, fellowship and the first Satellite Club meeting of the new Rotary year!

Concours d’Elegance: Our annual Concours d’Elegance is THIS WEEK! Make sure you are planning on being in Forest Grove on July 20 and 21 as we put on one of the best Concours-level car shows in the world! The show takes place on Sun., Jul 21 on the campus of Pacific University and is our club’s primary fundraiser of the year. The majority of the proceeds go to support our scholarship program. You can learn more about this year’s show at forestgroveconcours.org. All club members are expected to help with the show on Saturday and Sunday. The next Concours steering committee will be this Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the Forest Grove Chamber Office. All club members are welcome at planning meetings.

Concours After Party: After all is cleaned up and put away from Concours, Rotarians and their families are invited to the annual Concours after party at the home of Coni Ingram. The after party is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. or whenever the clean-up is done on the Pacific University campus.

Welcome Bobby!: On July 10, we welcomed our first new member of the 2019-2020 Rotary year, Bobby Kirkman. Sponsored by Claudia Yakos, Bobby is a social studies teacher at Forest Grove High School and also serves as the advisor for the Vik Crew, Associated Student Body (leadership) and the yearbook. He will be a member of our Satellite Club. Welcome Bobby!

District Governor Visit Postponed: Our visit from District Governor Diane Noriega has been postponed until Wed., Sept. 11. For our Wednesday program, our secretary, Lucas Welliver, will present a program on how to use DacDB, the online database used by our club and District 5100, and the My Rotary pages on rotary.org.

Steak Feed: If you have not turned in money for sales of Steak Feed tickets, or still have tickets on hand, you need to turn either in as soon as possible so that we can reconcile the books for the event. Billing for tickets not accounted out went out over the last week. If you have questions in regards to Steak Feed tickets and money, contact Marge Johnston.

Golf Tournament: The annual club Golf Tournament will be on Wed., Aug. 21, not Wed., Aug. 14 as was announced last week. The tournament will take place at the Sunset Grove Golf Course.

Forest Grove Summer Meals Program – Help Needed: At our May 22 meeting, Rotarian Rudy Tinoco spoke to the volunteer need for the Forest Grove Summer Meals program that is being coordinated through Old Town Church Forest Grove. Working with the Forest Grove School District, Summer Meals is a federally funded program that ensures all children up to age 18 meet their nutritional needs. Meals are served Monday through Friday, 12 to 12:30 p.m., from June 17 to August 16 at parks around Forest Grove and Cornelius. It is estimated that the program serves thousands of meals to children in our area each week. For some children, it may be their only meal of the day.

Peace Village: Registration is now open for Forest Grove’s first Peace Village camp, which is being co-sponsored by our club and the Forest Grove Daybreak Rotary Club. The camp, open to youth entering grades 6-9, takes place from Tues., Aug. 13 to Fri., Aug. 16, and will take place at the Forest Grove United Church of Christ and on the Pacific University campus. The cost of the camp is $135 per camper with scholarships available.

There is also still a need for volunteers who want to assist with the groups and for instructing during the camp. Lunch & snacks will be provided to all volunteer.

Last Week’s Program: Creating Friendships For Peace
In March, our club heard a program about a Rotary-supported program called Creating Friendships for Peace. New Rotarian Michael Colvin and his wife, Susan Sheperd, were inspired by the program to take part in a three-week exchange and hosting a pair of teens from Cyprus. The two teens, along with 10 others being hosted by Rotarians in Hood River and Tigard, visited our club to talk about what the Creating Friendships for Peace program has done to change their view of the world and their own view of the strife between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

The Creating Friendships for Peace program is a two-year peacebuilding and leadership training program for Cypriot teens. The program offers a camp in Cyprus for the first year, where teens begin the process of reconciliation and learn conflict management techniques and team building. In the second year, teens are selected for the U.S. program, which is followed by home stays with American families. Since 2009, CFP has graduated almost 1,000 teens and is responsible for thousands of friendships between teens, their families and their friends.
