FOREST GROVE, Oregon (Dec. 16, 2020) – The Rotary Club of Forest Grove is proud to accept $1,500 worth of grants from The Allstate Foundation to assist with two of the club’s local service projects.
The donation, provided to the club through local Allstate agent and Rotarian Janet Peters, will be split between the club’s annual Hope For The Holidays program and a project to refurbish a barbeque and other amenities at Rogers Park in Forest Grove.
“The Rotary Club of Forest Grove is thankful and grateful to Janet Peters and Allstate for providing thousands of dollars to our club for several years now,” said Club President Julia Kollar. “We are grateful for the continued support and for Janet’s continued commitment to our club and its projects.”
The club’s Hope For The Holidays project annually provides assistance for holiday shopping for families who might not otherwise have an opportunity to shop for the season. Qualifying families are identified through local school districts and other community partners and are guided through a shopping spree by Rotarians at the Cornelius Walmart. This year’s shopping event will take place on Monday, Dec. 21.
The upcoming Rogers Park project will renovate a community barbeque that was built by the Rotary Club of Forest Grove in 2004 as the club’s Centennial Project, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Rotary International. The project will also provide for an ADA accessible picnic table and game table to complement Anna and Abby’s Yard, the recently completed accessible playground project at the park.
“I am proud that my volunteer efforts enabled me to support our efforts to help create a thriving community,” Peters said. “Together, we help people realize their hopes and dreams.”
Peters joined the Rotary Club of Forest Grove in 2013 and currently serves on the club’s Board of Directors. In her seven-plus years of involvement with the club, The Allstate Foundation has provided $8,000 towards Rotary projects through Peters’ agency.
Despite meeting online since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, the Rotary Club of Forest Grove has continued to be active in service to the local community. The club’s service outreaches over the last year have included providing meals to first responders, providing funds and resources to the Forest Grove High School Food Pantry and providing over $26,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Forest Grove, Banks and Gaston high schools.
