HAPPY ROTARY NEW YEAR! LOOKING FORWARD TO YEAR OF ROTARY CONNECTING THE WORLD!
If you didn’t make it to this week’s Rotary Club of Forest Grove meeting, here is what you missed.
Meeting At Prime Time Next Week: Our next weekly noon meeting (Wed., July 10) will take place at Prime Time, 4450 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove.
Meal Prices Increasing: With the change of food service providers from Aramark to Bon Appetit, our price for meals at our weekly Wednesday meetings will be going up. While we understand the increase is inconvenient for some, we believe that the club will be rewarded with better food and better service. The meal prices moving forward are as follows…
Regular Members: $14 per meal (up from $12). Quarterly billings for meals will go up to $175 per quarter (from $150).
Pay As You Go: $16 per meal (up from $14).
Visiting Rotarians & Guests: $17
Hillsboro Fourth Of July Parade: Thank you to all Rotarians, volunteers and family members who came out for the Hillsboro Rotary Fourth of July parade to help promote the upcoming Concours d’Elegance. A special thanks to our Scout troop, Scouts BSA Troop 213, and to Tom Taylor for the use of his amazing Packard convertible.
Love Rocks Run: The Love Rocks Run, held June 29 and sponsored in part by our club, was an immense success. Over 800 runners and walkers came out to support the fundraiser for the Love Rocks Foundation and for Anna & Abby’s Yard. Special thanks to Michelle Thomas, Coni Ingram and others who set-up, took down and manned our booth at the Community Fair.
Welcome Kerri!: On June 26, we welcomed our newest member in Kerri Willis! Kerri is one of the event managers at Ridgewalker Brewing and was sponsored into the club by Tara Cirlincione. Welcome to our family of Rotary, Kerri!
District Governor Visit: We will have our club’s official visit from District Governor Diane Noriega on Wed., July 17. Please plan on attending to hear Diane’s message and vision for the district for this year! Officers and board members should plan on staying after for a short meeting with Diane.
Satellite Club Meeting: Our next Satellite Club Meeting will take place on Thurs., July 18, at the home of Pete & Parri Van Dyke. Come join us for food, fellowship and the first Satellite Club meeting of the new Rotary year!
Steak Feed: If you have not turned in money for sales of Steak Feed tickets, or still have tickets on hand, you need to turn either in as soon as possible so that we can reconcile the books for the event. Billing for tickets not accounted out went out over the last week. If you have questions in regards to Steak Feed tickets and money, contact Marge Johnston.
Concours d’Elegance: Our annual Concours d’Elegance is coming up quickly! Make sure you are planning on being in Forest Grove on July 20 and 21 as we put on one of the best Concours-level car shows in the world! The show takes place on Sun., Jul 21 on the campus of Pacific University and is our club’s primary fundraiser of the year. The majority of the proceeds go to support our scholarship program. You can learn more about this year’s show at forestgroveconcours.org.
The Concours steering committee is now meeting weekly as the planning and execution of show kicks into high gear. All club members are welcome at planning meetings. The next will be this Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the Forest Grove Chamber Office.
Forest Grove Summer Meals Program – Help Needed: At our May 22 meeting, Rotarian Rudy Tinoco spoke to the volunteer need for the Forest Grove Summer Meals program that is being coordinated through Old Town Church Forest Grove. Working with the Forest Grove School District, Summer Meals is a federally funded program that ensures all children up to age 18 meet their nutritional needs. Meals are served Monday through Friday, 12 to 12:30 p.m., from June 17 to August 16 at parks around Forest Grove and Cornelius. It is estimated that the program serves thousands of meals to children in our area each week. For some children, it may be their only meal of the day.
To learn more about the program or to sign up to volunteer, please visit communityconnectionwest.org/summer-lunch-program.
Peace Village: Registration is now open for Forest Grove’s first Peace Village camp, which is being co-sponsored by our club and the Forest Grove Daybreak Rotary Club. The camp, open to youth entering grades 6-9, takes place from Tues., Aug. 13 to Fri., Aug. 16, and will take place at the Forest Grove United Church of Christ and on the Pacific University campus. The cost of the camp is $135 per camper with scholarships available.
There is also still a need for volunteers who want to assist with the groups and for instructing during the camp. Lunch & snacks will be provided to all volunteer.
To apply, either for a camper or to volunteer, visit http://bit.ly/FGPV_App. For more information, contact Ali Hudson at fgpeacevillage@gmail.com.
The project is a joint between our Rotary Club and the Forest Grove Daybreak Rotary Club. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved in the planning process, see Loren Waltz, or Howard Sullivan. To learn more about Peace Village, Visit Their Website.
Have A Program Idea?: If you have an idea for a program or would like to present something yourself, let our program chair, Julia Kollar, know. She will also have a program planning board at meetings so you can see what is on deck and what dates may be available.

Last Week’s Program: Concours d’Elegance
We are less than three weeks until our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Concours d’Elegance. Show chairman Ken Cunningham spoke to the club about some of the preparations for the event and passed out the committee list for review. This is an event where all members are expected to come out and help. If you do not see your name on the committee list, or believe you should be on a different committee, please contact Ken at ken@mcbear.net as soon as possible.
We were also joined by Jill Thornton, who is the new director of conferences and events at Pacific University. Jill asked a number of questions to help make sure that she and her staff are ready to help us in the lead-up to the show.
